Smaller, better performance and easy to program: those were the goals we set ourselves in developing this new generation of “aero-naut” speed controls. The Multi series is designed for ground-based models, and therefore features reverse mode as well as forward.
Most speed controls produce an annoying whistle from the motor, but this is not audible with these units as the pulse frequency is so high at 16 kHz. This new generation of speed controls exploits digital techniques and incorporates the latest micro-controller technology. Programmed data is stored permanently in an E²prom until and unless the settings are changed. All the operator has to “tell” the speed control is the neutral position, full-throttle position and battery type (NiCd, NiMH or lead-acid). A jumper is used to select the EMF brake function: when set to free-wheel mode the motor is not braked at the neutral setting; the proportional EMF brake only slows the model if the stick is moved beyond the zero point in the opposite direction of travel. LEDs can be connected to the speed control, in which case they operate as brake lights in this mode. Reversing the direction of running is only possible once the motor has stopped. In motor brake mode the motor is slowed normally as with an active EMF brake. In this mode it is possible to reverse the direction of running at any time.
