Stark Turbulent

Order No. 1364/00

The Stark Turbulent D was one of the first aircraft to take to the air in Germany once aviation had been approved again after the Second World War. Based on plans for a French amateur light aircraft, the developer Wilhelm Stark produced part of German aviation history. Stark modified the original design to fulfil German approval regulations, and improved it in a number of respects. For example, the aircraft?s fuselage structure was reinforced and fitted with an enclosed cockpit and a steerable tailwheel. The Stark Turbulent D was manufactured in a small production run.

Our model is to 1 : 3 scale, and its voluminous fuselage makes it an impressive sight at any model flying field. With a wingspan of 2.3 metres the Stark Turbulent D is a striking and conspicuous  model. The wings are of all-wood built-up construction, and just need to be covered. The fuselage is factory-built from wood, with the important formers already bonded in place.

The motor is covered by a large GRP cowl which is simple to remove, and therefore offers good access to the power system. The canopy can be fitted out completely and equipped with cockpit instruments; the appropriate instrument stickers are included in the kit. The undercarriage consists of an aluminium unit with large rubber wheels which make the model easy to take off and land even from uneven grass strips. The tailwheel is steerable.

The Stark Turbulent D can be powered either by an internal-combustion engine or an electric motor. Our recommendation is for SAITO motors in the 35 - 60 cc range, which give the model an impressively realistic sound. For electric flight enthusiasts we recommend the actro 40 brushless motor with eight to ten LiPo cells; with this power system the aircraft is capable of simple aerobatics. The wide-chord wings endow the aircraft with great stability in the air, and it sails serenely through turbulent air. As such it is an ideal model for the beginner to large-scale aircraft. The kit includes a scale decal sheet.
